Stephen Tiernan

Stephen is a Musician, Music Producer and Sound Engineer based in Dublin. For most of his career Stephen has been very involved in the Irish indie/folk/alternative music scene, performing in various bands and in recent years focusing on his own solo work under the moniker ‘Participant’. He studied music technology, and utilising the recording studio, electronics, and music software have always been an essential part of what he does.
With a keen interest in where composition, music production and technology intersect, Stephen combines acoustic instruments with found sound, field recordings and electronic elements in his compositions. His live performances have featured tape loops, narratives and props. Stephen loves to reuse and repurpose material to create new sounds, images and ideas, with sampling and synthesis being cornerstones of a lot of his work, even within his smaller folk compositions and songs.

Stephen is currently finishing a solo album alternative/indie records in addition to readying a new electronic music project. New music is on the horizon!
