An art journaling club with Ninearrow
To find the real magic in life, quite often, you first need to make a mess.
Join Catherine for a six week course of play, discovery, and connection to yourself and the world around you.
Mess with whatever materials you feel drawn to. Follow that idea down the corridors of your mind. Collage, paint, drawing, ink, stencilling, whatever direction you are pulled. There really are no rules when it comes to finding your own magic.
Art and creative expression is for everyone. No prior experience is needed to participate, just an open mind and the curiosity to explore. Catherine will be there to guide and answer questions if and when you need her in a supportive, fun, and creatively freeing environment.

Week 1 - 19th Apr - Stamps
Explore creative stamping techniques using inks and acrylics to build texture, pattern, and layers in your art journal.
Class Focus: Introductions
Week 2 – 26th Apr - Gelli Plate Printing
Dive into the playful world of gelli printing to create vibrant, textured backgrounds and unique monoprints.
Class focus: Colour theory
Week 3 - 3rd May - Watercolour
A relaxed introduction to watercolours, trying different painting techniques and fun experiments. Layer with some inks and acrylic pens.
Class focus: Working with your surface
Week 4 – 10th May - Typography
Experiment with hand lettering and creative typography to bring words and visual storytelling into your journal.
Class focus: Letterforms
Week 5 – 17th May - Collage
Kshhh let’s get tearing! Play with collage using found papers, images, and ephemera while learning composition basics to create balanced, engaging pages.
Class focus: Composition
Week 6 – 24th May - Remix
Put it all together! Use what you’ve learned from each class and each other. Return to techniques you enjoyed or try out something new inspired by the class. All materials will be available.
Catherine Geaney
Catherine Geaney is an Irish illustrator, mixed-media artist, art facilitator and resident at Segotia who draws under the name Nine Arrow.
Nine Arrow journeys Cat’s own rediscovery of and re-connection with the Irish language. Through her illustrations, she uncovers the kind of plain sight mystery that lives in Irish words and expressions, mirroring their ancient roots and the artful ways in which they came into being.
Working with ink, watercolor, pencil, paint, markers, and digital techniques, Cat explores her fascination with the intrinsic connection between language and place. Her intricate depictions of Ireland’s native plants, animals, and landscapes present a fresh perspective on familiar phrases and experiences.
Since establishing Nine Arrow as an independent brand in 2017, Cat has gone on to sell her illustrations at countless markets and in stores, amassed over 10k followers online, and grown a brand that is true to her vision – giving Irish back to everyone, one word at a time.
